Marcel Duchamp (28 July 1887 2 October 1968) French painter and sculptor naturalized American in 1955.
Considered one of the most important and influential artists of the twentieth century, in his long career took care of painting (through the currents of Fauvism and Cubism), was leader of Dadaism and Surrealism, and then gave start to conceptual art, creating the ready-made and assembled. On the occasion of the centenary of the first ready-made created by Duchamp (Bicycle Wheel, 1913), the National Gallery of Modern Art of Rome, from 8/10/2013 to 19/01/2014, has organized an exhibition where they will be presented fourteen ready-made by Arturo Schwarz donated to the museum in 1997, accompanied by a selection of important works and original documents, which are fundamental to an understanding of Duchamp's path.
